Fungal toe nails

fungal-toe-nail-laserFungal toe nails or Onychomycosis

We have a choice of lasers for nail fungus. Laser treatment heats evenly throughout the depth of affected nail and skin tissue, effectively killing fungi which have infected the patient's toe nail. The immune response then can overwhelm and clear the fungus.
We suggest that the nail be filed down prior to laser treatment. During onychomycosis the nail will become deformed, overgrown and thickened. Filing down the nail allows laser light to fully penetrate into the treatment site.

Optimal protocols are not thoroughly researched and we suggest one treatment every week for four weeks.

Laser treatment is an attractive option as oral medication for toe nail fungus can rarely affect liver function. Other options are doing nothing or using topical anti-fungal nail solutions which can also be used with laser therapy to improve the results.
