PDT or photodynamic therapy is a very effective treatment for Sun damage, Acne, Oily skin and enlarged pores. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment that involves light-sensitive medicine and a light source to activate the medicine to destroy abnormal cells. It is used for treatment of skin cancers, pre-cancerous conditions and some systemic cancers but we restrict our use to sun-damage, benign skin conditions such as acne, rosacea etc or for skin rejuvenation in our clinic.

If you suspect skin cancer please see your GP or dermatologist.

How is PDT performed ?

Stage 1. You may need to prepare your skin with exfoliation and cleansing products at home prior to your treatment. Typically a glycolic wash and clinical scrub are used.

Stage 2. Application of ALA cream to treatment area and wait for 1 hour for the cream to absorb in the skin.

Stage 3. Activation of cream with a light source such as LED or one of our lasers.

Stage 4. Recovery at home. You will need to avoid exposure to sunlight for 1 week and use high factor sun cream.

Will I require downtime ? Yes we recommend 1 week of recovery period and social downtime.

Will I need multiple sessions ? Generally more than 1 session is required however you can achieve noticeable results just after 1 session.
