I like to think of myself as a broad minded person, open to new ideas and experiences and I am glad I decided to take Dr Gheyi up on his offer of trying laser hair removal. My misconceptions about cosmetic clinics were shattered when I sat in the waiting room reading the patients’ testimonial book. I had wrongly assumed that all cosmetic clinics were for people trying to achieve the ‘perfect’ face or body but the comments in the book contained genuine heartfelt praise for Dr Gheyi’s fantastic work and the way he has changed lives by giving patients more confidence in their appearance.

Dr Gheyi is a very highly qualified doctor who runs the clinic alongside his busy NHS surgery in quiet, suburban Coltishall Clinic. He offers treatment for many conditions: birthmarks, liver spots, rosacea, unsightly leg veins, wrinkles, unwanted hair and many more.

Consultation
At the initial consultation I completed a questionnaire and discussed my expectations of various treatments with Dr Gheyi. I decided to try the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment for unwanted underarm hair. IPL is well established, non-invasive, long lasting solution to unwanted hair on the face, back, legs, bikini line or any other area. We were able to start the treatment straight away however Dr Gheyi stresses that patients are very welcome to take some time to reflect on their consultation and make the decision at their leisure.

How does IPL remove hair?
Flashes of light are absorbed by dozens of hair-filled follicles below the skin. The light heats the hair which damages the re-growth potential of the follicle without harming the surrounding tissue.

Can all hair be treated?
The treatment can be customised to treat hair of any colour with containing some pigment on any skin type - from very light to very dark.

What happens during a treatment?
First the visible hair is trimmed and a cool gel is applied to the area to be treated. Dark glasses are worn to protect your eyes from the bright light then the IPL hand piece is placed gently onto your skin. Each flash feels like a twang of a small elastic band so there’s no need for local anaesthesia as most people, even I, tolerate the treatment well. After the treatment, lasting a few minutes, my skin felt a little warm but soon returned to normal.

Results
Just three monthly sessions later I have only sparse, downy hair remaining. The benefits of putting up with a few uncomfortable moments during the light flashes is immense and would be even more so for a person suffering from in-growing or unwanted facial hair.

The kind, friendly and efficient care from Dr Gheyi and his assistant, was at the highest level possible. Plus, seeing the same people at each visit provided comforting continuity of care.
