Warts and verrucae are a common problem. Numerous treatments are available. Most common treatments are salicylic acid applications, cryotherapy [ freezing with liquid nitrogen] and sometimes surgery. Various other options are available including occlusion with duct tape or doing nothing till immune cells get rid of these naturally.

Lasers can also be utilised and we are now using Nd-YAG laser for treatment in adult patients. Various other lasers are also used but most success has been reported with Nd-YAG lasers. A few sessions are required [2-4] and we are seeing excellent results.

We also offer CO2 laser ablation but this can require some healing time.

Lasers are not a magic solution and some recalcitrant warts can be very resistant to treatment by any modality. Lasers however offer an additional attractive option in management of warts and verrucae

Fungal toe nails or Onychomycosis

Nd-YAG Laser treatment heats evenly throughout the depth of affected nail and skin tissue, effectively killing fungi which have infected the patient's toe nail. The immune response then can overwhelm and clear the fungus.
We suggest that the nail be filed down prior to laser treatment. During onychomycosis the nail will become deformed , overgrown and thickened. Filing down the nail allows laser light to fully penetrate into the treatment site.

Optimal protocols are not thoroughly researched and we suggest one treatment every week for four weeks.

Laser treatment is an attractive option as oral medication for toe nail fungus can rarely affect liver function. Other options are doing nothing or using topical anti-fungal nail solutions which can also be used with laser therapy to improve the results.

I have had a few treatments for different things that have caused me concern. The Doctor made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. I am very pleased with the overall results. I had a verucca which I tried every treatment to remove over a 2 yr period with no success., but laser treatment removed it completely within a few sessions.
